Impact Mechanism of Resource Conservation on Farmers'Livelihood Strategy Choices in Scenic Area:A Case Study of Danxia Mountain Scenic Area in Guangdong
Taking six villages in Danxia Mountain scenic area of Guangdong as the research area, this paper analyzes the impact of resource protection on the livelihood strategy choices of farmers and its impact mechanism based on the field observations and interviews with 88 local farmers. The study concludes that:1)Resource conservation has a significant impact on the livelihood strategy choices of tourism-dependent rural households. When resource conservation is strengthened, the choice of tourism livelihood strategy decreases, while the choice of migrant worker livelihood strategy increases. When resource conservation is moderate, rural households tend to have more diversified livelihoods, their choice of traditional livelihood strategy is relatively high.2)In the context of resource conservation, due to limited available livelihood capital, the livelihood strategy choices of households are more easily influenced by the degree of implementation of resource conservation policies, emotional factors between individual and family,as well as social capital factors.3)In the context of resource conservation, the livelihood strategy choice mechanism of rural households should, compared to previous DFID analysis frameworks, place more emphasis on considering factors such as emotional factors between individual and household, and social capital. This study pays attention to the heterogeneity of vulnerability contexts, and the diversity and dynamics of factors influencing the livelihood strategy choices of rural households. At the same time,by incorporating the relationships between individuals, families, and society into the analytical framework of livelihood strategies,it is conducive to a more comprehensive analysis of the mechanism of residents'livelihood strategy choices and guiding the management practice of protected area communities.
