Xinjiang wapiti is rich in resources and an important base for red deer breeding in China.In the early stages of reform and opening up,Xinjiang wapiti had achieved brilliant results.However,in the past decade or so,although the number of breeding had continued to decline due to external environmental and international trade factors,the Xinjiang wapiti industry is facing serious challenges.In order to help revitalize the Xinjiang wapiti industry,based on the relevant red deer research papers for many years,this paper summarizes and discusses four aspects:the overview of Xinjiang wapiti resources,research progress,development opportunities after approval for entry into the National Catalogue of Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources,and suggestions for revitalizing the Xinjiang wapiti industry.It is hoped that this paper can provide reference and help for deer breeding,research,and management workers to understand the Xinjiang wapiti industry.
