Artificial Incubation and Hand-rearing of Psittacula krameri
In order to improve the reproduction of Psittacula krameri,92 Psittacula krameri eggs were collected for artificial incubation and brood. The results showed that the average egg weight of rose-ringed parakeet was(9.560±0.594)g,the egg diameter was(3.025±0.095)cm×(2.379±0.094)cm,and the egg shape index was 1.273±0.049.The artificial incubation temperature was held in 37.1-37.4 ℃,the humidity was 55%-65%,and the incubation period lasted 22-24 days.During the process of artificial incubation, the fertilized eggs of Psittacula krameri had an average weight loss of 3.37%±0.80%,which was linearly correlated with the incubation days. The average birth weight of the young Psittacula krameri was(7.39±0.87)g.The weight of the young birds increased rapidly from 3 to 101 days old,and the weight could reach(97.39±15.89)g at 101 days old.The Psittacula krameri is a kind of late adult that the newborn chicks are naked with pink skin,so they rely entirely on hand-rearing under the appropriate temperature and humidity in incubator. After about 101 days of feeding, they could fly and find food independently. The application of artificial incubation and brooding technology is conducive to improve the reproduction rate and survival rate of the Psittacula krameri.
