Daytime Behavior of Brooding Gentoo Penguin in Artificial Feeding
From November to December 2020,the scanning sampling method and target sampling method were used to observe and record the behaviors of 3 pairs of the different age gentoo penguins raised in Dalian Sun Asia Tourism Holding Co.,LTD to study the behavior time allocation and behavior rhythm of the gentoo penguins during the breeding period. The results showed that the behavioral time of the gentoo penguins was divided into 32%for brooding,22%for feeding,19%for guarding,13%for nest management,10%for feathering and 4%for resting. With the increase of the chick age,the brooding behavior of adult birds decreased obviously, the warning and nest management behavior decreased slightly, and the feather management, resting and feeding behavior increased obviously. The gentoo penguins bred in the first year had higher brooding and guarding behaviors than those bred for many years, lower nesting and feeding behaviors than those bred for many years, and there was almost no difference between feathering and resting behaviors. The purpose of this paper is to study the natural breeding behavior of the gentoo penguins under the condition of artificial breeding in order to present the behavior habits and biological characteristics of the gentoo penguins in the day,and provide data for the artificial breeding and breeding of gentoo penguins in the future.
