The Chinese broker and broker-house system is a business intermediary system with Chinese charac-teristics,which has undergone a complex evolutionary process.Approaching the topic from the perspective of institu-tional change,this paper analyzes the origin and developmental changes of the Chinese broker and broker-house system during the periods of pre-Tang,Tang-Song-Yuan,Ming-Qing and Republic of China,explores the histori-cal pulse of Chinese society andeconomic structure through a macro-historical lens,examines the developmental patterns of the broker and broker-house system,summarizes operation mechanisms of traditional commercial legal culture and business society,aiming to enrich the research on economic history,business history,and market trade history.
