In order to provide a reference for identifying varieties of Begonia in North American and for breeding and selection of fruit color, taking young fruits from 18 varieties of North American Begonia as materials, pericarp color values, chlorophyll contents, carotenoid contents, and anthocyanin contents in young fruits from different varieties of North American Begonia were determined. The varieties were clustered based on pericarp color index. And then relation of pericarp color of young fruit with parameters of leaf color was analyzed. The results of cluster analysis showed that pericarp color of young fruit of 18 varieties were clustered into five categories:green, dark red, red, pink, and white pink. The results showed that color of young fruits was not much affected by carotenoid content, and color of green fruit was mainly affected by chlorophyll contents.Pericarp color turned red gradually with anthocyanin content increased, and the change was regular.Pericarp color would be red when anthocyanin content reach a certain amount, and pericarp color would present different shades of red under other pigment affecting.Pericarp color was closely related to contents of anthocyanin and chlorophyll a,and anthocyanin content was the key influential factors on pericarp color.
