Digital Economy and Shared Development of the Region——Based on the Perspective of Regional Economic Coordinated Development
Based on the panel data of 30 provinces and 279 cities in China from 2011 to 2020,the impact of the digital economy on regional economic coordination and its internal mechanism is tested from three dimensions:inter-province,intra-province and urban-rural.The study finds that the digital econ-omy significantly promotes the coordinated development of the regional economy, and it is robust after con-sidering endogeneity and robustness tests. The digital economy can realize coordinated development among provinces by improving the level of market integration at the provincial level.By improving the functional division and the entrepreneurial level of cities, the economic development momentum of non-provincial cities can be enhanced to achieve coordinated development within the province. The development gap be-tween urban and rural areas should be narrowed by improving the quality of the urban labour force. The conclusion shows that the digital economy is important in enabling regional economic development, and provides empirical evidence and policy reference for solving the unbalanced and inadequate development status and accelerating the realization of shared development among regions.
