The Influence Path of Technology Diversification to Urban Digital Economy Development——An Empirical Analysis Based on Data from 279 Cities in China
The digital economy has a profound impact on improving social productivity and promoting industrial change.As a new economic form that relies on digital technologies,the development of the dig-ital economy is rooted in the past technological structure of cities,and the level of technological diversifica-tion affects the opportunities for cities to develop the digital economy by influencing their ability to integrate and reorganize existing and new technologies.From the perspective of technological diversification,this paper empirically analyzes the impact of technological diversification on the development of urban digital economy based on the invention patent data of 279 prefecture-level cities,and examines the moderating effect of the level of urban economic development.The differences in the impact of different types of tech-nological diversification on the development of the digital economy are verified by further distinguishing be-tween relevant and irrelevant technological diversification.The results of the study show that technological diversification can significantly promote the development of the urban digital economy.For cities with a higher level of economic development,the positive effect of technological diversification on the develop-ment of the digital economy is more obvious.There are obvious differences in the impact of different types of technological diversification on the development of the urban digital economy,among which irrelevant technological diversification has a more significant role in promoting the development of the urban digital economy.The findings enrich the research related to the impact pathways of digital economic development and add to the understanding of the mechanisms at work in the context of technological diversification driv-ing digital economic development.
