How Does the Digital Economy Affect New Urbanization:Mechanisms and Tests
This paper constructs a theoretical analysis framework about the impact of digital economy on new urbanization.Based on the panel data of 285 prefecture-level and above cities in China from 2006 to 2019,this paper uses the two-way fixed effect model to investigate the influence of digital economy de-velopment on new urbanization.The findings are as follows:The level of digital economy and new urbani-zation in China has jumped to different degrees,and the two trends are similar.Digital economy can sig-nificantly promote the development of new urbanization,especially the population,ecology and social di-mensions of new urbanization,but it is not conducive to the development of spatial urbanization,and its influence on economic urbanization is not significant.The influence of digital economy on new urbanization has obvious period and regional heterogeneity,that is,from the 11th Five-Year Plan to the 13th Five-Year Plan and from the east to the west,the influence of digital economy on new urbanization shows the characteristics of increasing marginal utility.Further research shows that the impact of digital economy on new urbanization is constrained by the city scale,and the smart city construction relying on digital technol-ogy can effectively promote the development of new urbanization.This article provides empirical evidence and policy enlightenment based on the perspective of digital economy development for the high-quality de-velopment of new urbanization.
