Research on the Impact of Smart City Construction on Carbon Emission Efficiency Under the Green Development Goals
In the context of global climate change, green development has become an important goal in the construction of smart cities, helping cities to reduce carbon and increase efficiency. The paper theo-retically analyzed the mechanism of smart cities on carbon emission efficiency, and then taking the smart city pilot policy as a quasi-natural experiment,we employed the DID model to empirically test the impact of smart cities on carbon emission efficiency based on the panel data of 280 prefecture-level cities from 2007 to 2019.The results are as follows.Firstly, the smart city construction has significantly improved carbon emission efficiency and has a significant spillover effect.Secondly, the smart cities contribute to improvement of carbon emission efficiency by advancing technological innovation, optimizing industrial structure, and enhancing resource allocation. Finally, the heterogeneity analysis demonstrated that the construction of smart cities has a significant promoting effect on cities with high-level digital infrastructure, large urban scale and high carbon emissions. These findings provide an important reference for further pro-moting the construction of new green smart cities.
