Construction of the Belt and Road and Inclusive Economic Growth in Countries Along the Route——A Study Based on the Social Mobility Index
The Belt and Road Initiative has gone through a decade of journey, and has made great achievements in promoting global common development.Based on the transnational panel data from 2005 to 2021,this paper constructs an inclusive growth indicator based on the social mobility index, and dis-cusses the impact of the Belt and Road on the inclusive growth of the economies of countries along the Belt and Road. The research finds that the Belt and Road Initiative can significantly drive the inclusive eco-nomic growth of countries along the Belt and Road, and this impact has long-term effects. The inclusive growth effect of the Belt and Road Initiative is more prominent among the participating countries that are on the Silk Road, with low economic development level, high internal governance level, and high level of emotion towards China. The construction of the Belt and Road can promote inclusive economic growth of countries along the route through five mechanisms:infrastructure improvement, trade benefits, policy co-operation,cultural inclusion, and green sharing. The results of this paper show that the construction of the Belt and Road has become an important practice of China's concept of inclusive growth, effectively bridging the development gap of countries along the line, helping the world reduce poverty, and leading to the arrival of a new era of inclusive globalization.
