The Impact of Digital Infrastructure Construction on Residents'Income Opportunity Inequality——Based on China's Prefecture-level City Panel Data
Based on the multi-period data of China General Social Survey(CGSS),this paper uses the prior parameter method to construct the income opportunity inequality index of municipal level in Chi-na,and uses the macro-level data of prefecture-level in China to construct the digital infrastructure system from the two aspects of digital infrastructure input and digital infrastructure output.Based on macro and micro data matching,this paper investigates the impact and mechanism of digital infrastructure construction on residents'income opportunity inequality.The empirical analysis results show that the construction of digital infrastructure can help alleviate the inequality of residents'income opportunities,and this result is still valid after a series of endogeneity and robustness tests.In the heterogeneity analysis,this paper finds that digital infrastructure construction in western regions of China has the most significant effect on allevia-ting inequality of income opportunities.In the mechanism analysis,this paper examines the mediating effect of labor employment level,urban income level,and the moderating effect of R&D innovation abili-ty.This paper finds that digital infrastructure can fully leverage the"digital dividend",alleviate the in-come opportunity inequality of residents,and achieve a higher level of common prosperity.
