New Rural Collective Economy and Common Prosperity:An Empirical Examination Based on Survey Data of Rural Revitalization in China
Drawing upon comprehensive data from the 2019 China Rural Revitalization Survey, this study employs econometric models to investigate the impact of the development of the new rural collective economy on the common prosperity of rural residents,as well as the underlying mechanisms at play. The findings of this research are as follows:Firstly, the development of the new rural collective economy ex-hibits a significant positive influence on both the material and spiritual prosperity of rural residents.Sec-ondly,property income and non-agricultural employment serve as prominent mediators between the new rural collective economy and common prosperity, while public services solely mediate the relationship be-tween the development of the new rural collective economy and the enhancement of rural residents'spiritual well-being.Public participation, however, does not emerge as a mediating mechanism between the de-velopment of the new rural collective economy and common prosperity.Thirdly, further analysis reveals that regardless of the completion status of reforms pertaining to rural collective property rights, the develop-ment of the collective economy significantly promotes common prosperity among rural residents.Nonethe-less,in villages with experience poverty, the development of the collective economy primarily affects ma-terial prosperity, with a less significant impact on the spiritual well-being of residents.Further analysis reveals that there is a Matthew effect in the development of the new rural collective economy, and that its contribution to narrowing the income gap in the western region is not obvious. The above findings suggest that an important step in realizing common prosperity at this stage is to promote the high-quality develop-ment of the rural collective economy.
