Research on the Spatial Effects of Government Environmental Attention on Urban-rural Income Disparity
Although scholars have noticed the spillover effect of the income gap between urban and rural residents in geographical space, they mainly focus on the economic conditions, technological level, and financial base, few researches have studied the spatial effect of the income gap between urban and ru-ral residents from the perspective of government environmental attention. Therefore, based on the panel data of 282 prefecture-level cities in China from 2007 to 2019,this paper uses the spatial Durbin model to empirically analyze the relationship between government environmental attention and urban-rural income disparity. The results show that:(1)The impact of government environmental attention on urban-rural in-come disparity is not a simple linear relationship, but a significant"inverted U"relationship.(2)There is a diffusion effect of the government's environmental attention. When the environmental attention of the region is increased, the impact of the urban-rural income gap in adjacent regions presents an inverted U-shaped curve.(3)The spatial effect of government environmental attention on urban-rural income dis-parity is heterogeneous. For the eastern region, improving environmental attention in the eastern region will significantly narrow the income gap between urban and rural areas in the surrounding areas. For the western region, the spatial spillover effect of improving environmental attention in the western region on the surrounding areas is not significant.
