Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels,standing at the height of achieving the free and comprehensive development of human beings,developed the ideas of balanced layout of productive forces and regional divi-sion of labor and cooperation,which together constitute the basic theory of regional economic development.This theory has a profound impact on the development of the socialist regional economy.It has experienced the evolution from balanced development,unbalanced development,integrated development,to coordinated devel-opment between regions in the process of adapting to China's conditions.In the new era,promoting the adapta-tion of the theory to China's conditions and the times necessitates endeavor in the following aspects:compre-hensively deepening the reform to address uneven development between regions,developing new quality pro-ductive forces according to local conditions and driving high-quality coordinated development of the regional economy through innovation,coordinating the synchronous development of developed and underdeveloped re-gions and promoting both new urbanization and rural revitalization.
