This study builds an industrial cooperation and agglomeration index based on panel data of cities to examine the effects of the digital economy on industrial cooperation and agglomeration from the perspectives of efficient allocation of factors of production and technological innovation.The results show that the digital economy can promote the cooperation and agglomeration of manufacturing and productive service industries.The efficient allocation of factors of production and technological innovation are the key of the digital economy in driving the industrial cooperation and agglomeration.The effects of the digital economy on industrial coop-eration and agglomeration are constrained by industrial foundation,geographical location,and urban attri-butes,and the promoting effects are stronger in service-oriented cities,southern cities,and central cities.The effects depend on external policy intervention and the dimension of cooperation and agglomeration.The Broad-band China and Digital China initiatives contribute to the effects of the digital economy,and the digital economy has a significant effect on the quality of cooperation and agglomeration.This study not only broadens the research perspectives of the digital economy but also provides empirical evidence for driving industrial co-operation and agglomeration.
