A Mindfulness-Based Intervention Study on Depression and Anxiety of the Elderly in a Community Daycare Center in Shanghai
Objective To explore the effectiveness of mindfulness intervention in improving the negative emotions of depression and anxiety among the elderly.Methods The elderly in 4 community day care centers were selected by cluster random sampling method as the research object,and the elderly in the intervention group were intervened for 8 weeks by mindfulness method.Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD-17),Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA)and Life Satisfaction Index a Scale(LSIA)were used as measuring tools to evaluate the intervention effect.Results After the intervention,the scores of HAMD-17 and HAMA of the elderly in the intervention group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05),and the LSIA score of the elderly in the intervention group was higher than that in the control group.Conclusion Mindfulness intervention can improve the depression and anxiety of the elderly in community day care centers,promote their mental health and improve their life satisfaction.
