Investigation on Tobacco Prevalence Among Rural Residents Aged 15 and Above in Jiexi County of Guangdong Province
Objective To understand the epidemic situation of tobacco among rural residents in Jiexi County,and to provide the scientific basis for formulating effective tobacco control policies and carrying out health education on tobacco control.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among 661 rural residents aged 15 and above in Jiexi county by multistage stratified cluster sampling.Results The current smoking rate of rural residents in Jiexi County was 33.0%,and there were significant differences among groups with different age,education levels and occupations(P<0.05).The daily smoking rate of rural residents was 30.7%.The differences of daily rates of groups with different age,education levels and occupations were statistically significant(P<0.05).The proportion of non-smokers exposed to second-hand smoke in a week was 72.9%.The intention to quit smoking rate of smoker was 31.2%.Among the respondents,the proportion of people who thought that smoking will cause lung cancer was the highest(47.5%).Gender and occupation were the main influencing factors of smoking behavior of rural residents in Jiexi County.Conclusion The smoking rate of rural residents in Jiexi County is high in men,middle-aged and elderly people and government/institution staff,and targeted tobacco control policies will be carried out for key groups in the future.
