Objective To investigate the awareness rate of tobacco knowledge and attitude towards smoking among senior high school students in Quanzhou,and to provide the basis for tobacco control intervention in senior high schools.Methods Using random sampling method,the ordinary senior high school students and vocational high school students in Quanzhou were selected for investigating the awareness rate of tobacco harm knowledge and attitude towards smoking.Results A total of 5 348 students were involved in this survey.Regarding the awareness of the dangers of smoking,the awareness rate of"smoking addiction is a chronic disease""the sooner you quit smoking,the better"and"harmful substances in tobacco cause many cancers"were high.Among the diseases caused by smoking,the awareness rate of lung cancer,tracheitis,pneumonia and emphysema were high among students in ordinary middle schools and vocational middle schools.Except for the attitude of"I hope the society will carry out smoking cessation activities",the other attitudes towards smoking were statistically different between students in ordinary middle schools and vocational middle schools(P<0.05).Conclusion Schools,especially vocational schools,should strengthen the intervention of tobacco control on campus,make joint efforts to do tobacco control actions,reduce or avoid the harm of tobacco and protect the physical and mental health of senior high school students.
