A Study on the Correlation Between College Students' Mobile Phone Dependence and Cognitive Reasoning Ability
Objective To explore the relationship between college students'mobile phone dependency and cognitive reasoning ability, providing a scientific basis for guiding college students to use mobile phones scientifically. Methods From May to July,2022,1 371 college students in a university of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps were investigated by using Mobile Phone Addiction Index,MPAI)and Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices(SPM).Results The proportion of college students who were dependent on mobile phones was 56.4%.The total score of mobile phone dependence was negatively correlated with comparative reasoning ability, abstract reasoning ability and two total scores. The scores of out-of-control dimension and withdrawal dimension of mobile phone dependence were significantly negatively correlated with the related indexes of cognitive reasoning ability(P<0.05).The mobile phone dependence of male and top-ranked college students was negatively correlated with comparative reasoning ability, abstract reasoning ability and two total scores;the mobile phone dependence of college students who lived in rural areas and whose monthly living expenses were less than 1 000 yuan was negatively correlated with their comparative reasoning ability and two total scores. Conclusion There was a significant negative correlation between college students'dependence on mobile phones and their cognitive reasoning ability. The higher their dependence on mobile phones, the lower their cognitive reasoning ability. The harm of mobile phone dependence on college students could not be ignored, and it was urgent to further study and explore the relevant mechanisms.
