Objective To investigate the mental health status of residents in two communities in Gansu Province and explore the relationship between mental sub-health status and mental health cognition.Methods A total of 371 residents were selected from two communities in Gansu Province by convenient sampling method,and were investigated by mental health cognition questionnaire,coping style questionnaire,psychological help seeking attitude questionnaire and sub-health status questionnaire.Results The channels for residents to acquire mental health knowledge were communication between friends(58.2%),computer Internet access(57.1%),mobile phone subscription(25.9%),etc;the most disturbing issues for residents are economic pressure,emotional instability,frustration in marriage or love,anxiety about work,confusion about the future,etc;when there was psychological confusion,residents mainly sought self-regulation(46.2%),family help(13.9%),and close friends(11.7%).There were significant differences in the distribution of residents'cognition of mental health care and coping styles among gender,urban and rural areas,marital status and education background(P<0.05);there were significant differences in the distribution of psychological help seeking attitude among marital status and educational level(P<0.05);there were significant differences in mental sub-health status between urban and rural areas,marital status,occupation and education background(P<0.05).The residents'cognition of mental health care was positively correlated with coping style and psychological help seeking attitude(P<0.05),but negatively correlated with mental sub-health status(P<0.05);coping style was negatively correlated with mental sub-health status(P<0.05).Conclusion The current situation of mental health care of rural residents in Gansu Province is not optimistic.It is necessary to carefully investigate the influencing factors,increase the propaganda of mental health care for residents,and enrich the content and form of mental health education activities.
