Effect of pre-pregnancy body mass index on pregnancy outcome
Objective To analyze the influence of preconception body mass index(BMI)on pregnancy comorbities and complications. Methods The clinical data of 5 394 single pregnant women admitted to Fujian Maternal and Child Health Hospital from April 1,2022 to March 31,2023 were retrospectively analyzed.Logistic regression analysis was used to evalu-ate the influence of pre-pregnancy BMI on maternal and infant adverse outcomes. Results The cohort included 67.9%of normal-weight women,13.8%of low-weight women,14.0%of overweight women and 4.3%of obese women.Compared with normal weight before pregnancy, overweight and obesity before pregnancy increased the risk of gastational diabetes mellitus(GDM),gestational hypertension, cesarean section, macrosomia, and neonatal intensive care unit(NICU)1 week after birth(P<0.05).Low body weight before pregnancy was associated with lower risk of GDM,gestational hypertension and macroso-mia(P<0.05).Conclusion High pre-pregnancy BMI can increase the risk of pregnancy comorbities and complications.Weight management before pregnancy should be strengthened in women of childbearing age to reduce the occurrence of pregnancy comorbities and complications.
