Analysis of influencing factors and health outcomes of delay in seeking medical care in patients with allergic skin disease
Objective To investigate the factors leading to delays in seeking medical care in patients with allergic skin dis-ease(ASD)and their relationship with health outcomes. Methods An online questionnaire survey was conducted among ASD patients in the Outpatient Department of Dermatology and Venereology in Xiangya Hospital,Central South University from April to May 2022,using the general data questionnaire, the delay in seeking medical attention of ASD patients, visual analogue scale of perceived stress(VAS),visual analogue scale of disease symptom severity(VAS),and dermatology life quality index(DLQI).The influencing factors of delay in seeking medical treatment and its relationship with health outcomes were analyzed(delay in seeking medical treatment was defined as the time of seeking medical treatment≥3 months).Logis-tic regression model was used to analyze the influencing factors of medical delay, and two-independent sample t-test was used to analyze the association between medical delay and health outcomes. Results The univariate analysis showed signifi-cant differences in perceived pressure, distrust in the health care system, and adverse experience in the treat-ment of skin problems between patients with delayed med-ical care seeking and those without such delays(P<0.05).The multivariate analysis suggested that greater perceived stress(β=0.966,OR=2.63,95%CI=1.22-5.64)and ad-verse experience in the treatment of skin problems(β=0.622,OR=1.86,95%CI=1.18-2.94)were risk factors for delayed medical care seeking among patients with ASD.The satisfaction of treatment in the delayed treatment group was lower than that in the no delayed treatment group, and the severity of disease symptoms in the delayed treatment group was higher than that in the no delayed treatment group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The present study showed that among patients with ASD,greater perceived stress and adverse experience in the treatment of skin problems are prominent factors for delayed medical care seeking;delayed medical care seeking is also associated with a variety of adverse skin health outcomes.
