Pathological diagnosis of intraoperative frozen section of ocular tumor
Objective By analyzing the characteristics of ocular tumors submitted for frozen section examination, the appli-cation value of frozen section examination in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular tumors was explored, providing a refer-ence for clinical diagnosis and treatment of eyelid tumors. Methods From October 2015 to April 2023,41 patients who un-derwent ocular tumor resection in Shandong Eye Hospital and underwent intraoperative frozen section examination and paraffin section pathological examination were selected as the research objects. The pathological diagnosis results and all clinical data of the patients were analyzed. Results Among the 41 patients,18 were males and 23 were females. The average age was(63.15±13.27)years,ranging from 32 to 85 years. The age of malignant tumor patients was higher than that of be-nign tumor patients, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The accuracy of pathological diagnosis was 82.9%in 34 cases,of which 19 cases(46.3%)were completely consistent and 15 cases(36.6%)were basically consistent. The delayed diagnosis rate was 17.1%in 7 cases. In this study,26 cases(63.4%)were diagnosed as ocular malignant tu-mors,of which 24 cases were confirmed by frozen section. The most common malignant tumors were basal cell carcinoma in 14 cases(53.8%),followed by sebaceous adenocarcinoma in 8 cases(30.8%).15 cases(36.6%)were diagnosed as benign ocular tumors,of which 10 cases were confirmed by frozen section. The most common benign tumors were inflammatory le-sions in 5 cases(33.3%),pigmented nevus in 3 cases(20.0%)and dermal fibromatoid hyperplasia in 2 cases(13.3%).The average completion time of pathological diagnosis in frozen section was(29.54±8.39)min.Conclusion The accuracy rate of intraoperative pathological diagnosis of frozen section is relatively high and the time is short, which can help clinicians quickly determine the nature of the tumor, determine whether the surgical margin has residual tumor cells, and control the surgical margin, which is worthy of promotion and application in the auxiliary diagnosis of ocular tumors.
