Refractory angina pectoris(RFA)is a type of angina that persists for more than three months after routine medi-cation and surgical treatment. As the most serious and refractory type of angina pectoris in clinic, the incidence rate of RFA is increasing, which is the focus of cardiovascular research at present. The essence of the etiology and pathogenesis of RFA is based on deficiency and excess, with deficiency of heart yang as the foundation of the disease, and qi stagnation, blood stasis, phlegm turbidity, and cold coagulation as the criteria of the disease. The main syndromes of traditional Chinese medicine are qi deficiency, blood stasis, and phlegm turbidity. The main types of syndromes include qi deficiency and blood stasis,qi stagnation and blood stasis, phlegm obstruction and blood stasis, cold coagulation of heart meridians,qi yin defi-ciency,yang deficiency and water flooding, and the desire to lose heart yang.Traditional Chinese medicine treatment is mainly oral decoction and traditional Chinese patent medicines and simple preparations, while western medicine treatment includes β Receptor blockers, nitrates, aspirin and other drugs for treatment,as well as enhanced extracorporeal counter-pulsation therapy, spinal cord stimulation surgery, extracorporeal cardiac shock wave therapy, and other extracorporeal ther-apies.According to the progress of modern medical research, the commonly used western medicine treatment, traditional Chinese medicine treatment, traditional Chinese patent medicines and simple preparations treatment and in vitro character-istic treatment methods are summarized to provide theoretical support for further research of RFA.
