Effect of wrist ankle acupuncture in the prevention of shoulder-hand syndrome after acute cerebral infarction
Objective To observe the clinical effect of wrist and ankle acupuncture on prevention of shoulder-hand syn-drome(SHS)after acute cerebral infarction. Methods Sixty patients with acute cerebral infarction admitted to the Depart-ment of Cerebrovascular Intervention, the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from February 2021 to March 2023 were selected as the study objects, and they were divided into control group(30 cases)and wrist and ankle acupuncture group(30 cases)according to random number table method. The control group received con-ventional neurological drug treatment and nerve function rehabilitation training of the affected limb, and the wrist and ankle acupuncture group was treated with wrist and ankle acupuncture on the basis of the control group, for a total of 14 days. The occurrence of SHS 14 days after onset,1 and 3 months after onset were compared between the two groups, and the visual analogue scale(VAS)of pain and Fugl-Meyer assessment(FMA)scores of patients with SHS were compared between the two groups. Results The incidences of SHS 14 days after onset,1,3 month after onset in the wrist-ankle acupuncture group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).VAS scores 14 days,1 and 3 months after the onset of the disease in the wrist and ankle acupuncture group were lower than those in the control group, and FMA scores were higher than those in the control group, with statistical significances(P<0.05).Conclusion Carpal and ankle acupuncture can effectively prevent the occurrence of shoulder-hand syndrome after acute cerebral infarc-tion,and at the same time,it has significant efficacy in relieving the pain level of the affected limbs and improving the motor function of patients who developed shoulder-hand syn-drome.
