Diagnostic value of red blood cell distribution width in pancreatic cancer
Objective To analyze the changes of red blood cell distribution width(RDW)in patients with pancreatic cancer, and to evaluate the potential diagnostic value of RDW in pancreatic cancer. Methods The clinical data of 242 patients with pancreatic cancer(pancreatic cancer group)and 249 healthy controls(normal control group)in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from January 2016 to December 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. The blood routine pa-rameters of the two groups were compared.Pearson correlation analysis was used to evaluate the correlation between RDW and other blood inflammatory parameters.ROC was used to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of RDW in pancreatic cancer. Results The levels of white blood cell(WBC),neutrophil(NEU)and RDW in the pancreatic cancer group were higher than those in the normal control group, and the levels of hemoglobin(Hb),platelet(PLT)and lymphocyte(LYM)were lower than those in the normal control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Correlation analysis showed that RDW was negatively correlated with Hb(r=-0.553,P<0.001)and mean corpuscular volume(MCV)(r=-0.263,P<0.001),and was positively correlated with platelet distribution width(PDW)(r=0.170,P=0.008)and mean platelet volume(MPV)(r=0.227,P<0.001).Meanwhile,RDW level was positively correlated with metastasis of pancreatic cancer(r=0.169,P=0.008).ROC curve analysis showed that the best critical value of RDW for predicting pancreatic cancer was 14.5,AUC was 0.810,95%CI was 0.770-0.850,P<0.05,sensitivity and specificity were 59.9%and 99.6%,respectively.Conclusion RDW is increased in patients with pancreatic cancer, which may have a certain clinical guiding significance in the diagnosis and evaluation of pancreatic cancer.
