Effects of functional electrical stimulation combined with mirror therapy on lower limb function, balance function and serum irisin level in stroke patients with hemiplegia
Objective To investigate the effects of functional electrical stimulation(FES)combined with mirror therapy on lower limb function, balance function and serum irisin level in stroke patients with hemiplegia. Methods A total of 84 stroke patients with hemiplegia admitted to Foresea Life Insurance Nanning Hospital from January 2022 to June 2023 were select-ed as the research objects. They were divided into control group(42 cases)and FES group(42 cases)by random number table method. On the basis of routine rehabilitation, the control group was given mirror therapy, and the FES group was given FES combined with mirror therapy. Both groups were intervened for 4 weeks. The lower limb motor function(Fugl-Meyer assessment lower limb part[FMA-L]),balance function(berg balance scale[BBS]),walking ability(10 m walking time test[10MWT],functional walking ability classification[FAC]),daily living ability([modified Barthel index MBI])and serum irisin levels were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results After 4 weeks of treatment, the FMA score,BBS score and MBI score of the lower limbs in the FES group were higher than those in the control group, and the10MWT and FAC were better than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After 4 weeks of treatment, the serum irisin level in the FES group was higher than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion FES combined with mirror therapy can better improve lower limb function and balance function, increase serum irisin level and promote walking ability of patients.
