Spinal cord injury is a common traumatic disease in spinal surgery,often accompanied by severe functional im-pairment of limbs below the injury level,and even life-threatening respiratory complications.Extensive research data from both domestic and international sources have investigated the pathological and regenerative mechanisms of spinal cord injury.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has a long history of treating spinal cord injury,with its independent dialectical thinking mode,emphasis on individualized treatment,and irreplaceable role of herbal medicine and acupuncture therapy in the treatment of spinal cord injury.This article systematically reviews the pathogenesis of spinal cord injury,from ancient understanding to modern clinical and experimental research,summarizes the etiology and pathogenesis of spinal cord injury,TCM diagnostic key points,various treatment mechanisms and current status,and summarizes the modernized treatment of spinal cord injury in TCM,aiming to explore new ideas for the future development of TCM-based treatment for spinal cord injury.
