Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness that accounts for the largest number of mental illnesses with signifi-cantly increased mortality worldwide.Numerous studies have shown that people with schizophrenia have certain metabolic abnormalities, confirming that metabolic syndrome is more common in people with schizophrenia than in the general popula-tion,and studies have shown that people with schizophrenia die on average 25 years earlier than the general population.Much of this risk is due to chronic diseases, with a particularly high incidence and prevalence of coronary heart disease, which can lead to the loss of life in severe cases. There are also studies that suggest that people with schizophrenia may be more susceptible to metabolic syndrome, regardless of whether they take psychiatric drugs. There are also studies that show that a significant proportion of patients with schizophrenia develop metabolic syndrome first, although more research is needed to confirm this.At present, the metabolic field of this disease is the focus of many researchers, and the early and late appearance of metabolic syndrome and schizophrenia and whether there is a correlation need further research.
