Objective To explore the relationship between prognostic nutritional index and depressive symptoms in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods A total of 2 441 patients with COPD age>40 years were se-lected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey database from 2005 to 2018.Depressive symptoms were assessed according to the patient health questionnaire-9(PHQ-9),and prognostic nutrition index(PNI)was divided into two groups according to the median(P50)(>P50 was high PNI group,≤P50 was low PNI group),a linear regression model was established to evaluate the relationship between prognostic nutrition index and depression. Results Among the 2 441 COPD patients,557 had depressive symptoms. There were statistically significant differences in age, sex, marital status,race,edu-cation level, smoking, body mass index, prognostic nutrition index, depression score and chronic disease combination be-tween depression and COPD patients(P<0.05).High PNI(B=-0.04,95%CI=-0.08~-0.01)was the influencing factor of depression in COPD patients(P=0.013).Male,widowed/divorced/separated,combined with three or more chronic diseases were the influential factors for depression in patients with high PNI(P<0.05).Conclusion High levels of prognostic nutri-tional indices in patients with COPD may be a influence factor for depression risk.
