Chronic kidney disease(CKD)is a serious public health problem.In recent years,with the increasing prevalence of hypertension,diabetes and obesity,CKD patients are increasing year by year,and some of them eventually progress to end-stage renal disease,which seriously endangers human health and brings heavy burden to society.Hyperhomocysteine-mia(HHcy),like hypertension,diabetes and hyperlipidemia,is an important indicator to evaluate physical health.Previous studies believed that HHcy is a risk factor for coronary heart disease,peripheral vascular sclerosis,dementia and other dis-eases.Therefore,more and more attention has been paid to the study of homocysteine.In patients with CKD,the incidence of HHcy is high,and the incidence of HHcy in CKD is gradually increasing with the decline of renal function.Among the many risk factors for CKD,in addition to traditional risk factors such as hypertension and diabetes,some scholars believe that HHcy is one of the outcomes of renal function decline and a risk factor for the occurrence and development of CKD.Its dam-age to the kidney includes renal vessels,glomeruli,renal tubules and other aspects.This article reviews the progress of ho-mocysteine metabolism,damage mechanism and treatment in CKD,hoping to provide new ideas for the study of homocys-teine and CKD.
