Objective:This study aimed to analyze the impact of the triglyceride-glucose-body mass index(TyG-BMI)on carotid atherosclerosis progression, providing reference for clinical practice and cardiovascular disease prevention. Methods:This prospective cohort study included 9 525 participants from the health checkup population at Peking University Third Hospital, with an average follow-up of 755 days.TyG-BMI was used as the exposure factor, and the study endpoint was the carotid atherosclerosis progression.Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to analyze the impact of TyG-BMI on carotid atherosclerosis progression. Results:The study showed a significant association between TyG-BMI and carotid atherosclerosis progression. In the unadjusted model, the high TyG-BMI group had a significantly increased risk of carotid atherosclerosis progression compared to the low TyG-BMI group(HR=1.5,95%CI 1.3-1.7,P<0.001).After adjusting for confounders such as sex,age,hypertension,diabetes,hyperlipidemia,SBP,DBP,HR,TC,LDL-C and HDL-C,the high TyG-BMI group still exhibited a higher risk of carotid atherosclerosis progression(HR=1.3,95%CI 1.1-1.5,P<0.001).Conclusion:The results indicate that individuals with higher TyG-BMI have a significantly increased risk of carotid atherosclerosis progression.Even after adjusting for multiple cardiovascular risk factors.TyG-BMI may serve as a potential indicator for predicting cardiovascular events, with implications for early clinical screening and risk assessment.
