Relationship between narrative disorders and non-suicidal self-injurious behavior in male juvenile offenders:The mediating role of trait positivity
Objective:To investigate the levels of narrative disorders,non-suicidal self-injury(NSSI),and trait positivity in male juvenile offenders,to analyze the relationship between narrative disorders and non-suicidal self-injurious behaviors, and to explore the mediating role of trait positivity. Methods:A survey of male juvenile offenders who had been incarcerated for one year was conducted from October 10-20,2023 at a western juvenile correctional facility using the whole cluster random sampling method. The scales included the General Situation Questionnaire,Toronto Accounting Disorder Scale(TAS),Non-Suicidal Self-Injurious Behavior Questionnaire for Adolescents(NSSI),and Positive Thoughts Five Factor Questionnaire(FFMQ).A total of 249 valid questionnaires were returned with a response rate of 92.22%.Bootstrap method was used for mediation effect test. Results:The conscious action(r=-0.135,P<0.05)and nonjudgmental(r=-0.143,P<0.05)dimensions of the male juvenile offenders'FFMQ scale and the total score of the scale(r=-0.179,P<0.01)were significantly negatively correlated with the level of NSSI,while the scores of the emotionally indistinguishable dimension of the TAS scale were significantly positively correla-ted with the level of NSSI(r=0.179,P<0.01);The total TAS score was significantly positively correlated with NS-SI level(r=0.139,P<0.05).The mediation results showed that trait positivity in male juvenile offenders partially mediated(β=0.01,95%CI:0.001~0.026)between their dysphoria and NSSI behavior, accounting for 25%of the to-tal effect. Conclusion:Trait positivity plays a partial intermediary role between male juvenile offenders'dysphoria and non-suicidal self-injurious behavior, and dysphoria can directly affect juvenile offenders'non-suicidal self-injuri-ous behavior, and can also indirectly affect non-suicidal self-injurious behavior through trait positivity. In the process of education and rehabilitation, the relevant departments need to reduce the lyricism disorder of juvenile of-fenders and improve the level of trait positive thinking,so as to effectively reduce the psychological crisis of non-suicidal self-injurious behavior.
