Investigation on uncertainty in illness among parents of neonates in NICU and its correlation with psychological resilience and perceived nurses'support
Objective:To investigate and analyze uncertainty in illness among parents of neonates in the neonatal in-tensive care unit(NICU),and its correlation with psychological resilience and perceived nurses'support.Methods:U-sing the random sampling method,122 parents of neonates admitted to NICU of Nanyang Central Hospital from May 2022 to January 2024 were selected as the research subjects. The Chinese version of the Parent Perception of Uncertainty Scale(PPUS),the Chinese version of the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale(CD-RISC),and the Nurse Parent Support Tool(NPST)were used to investigate uncertainty in illness, psychological resilience, and perceived nurses'support, respectively. The correlation between uncertainty in illness and psychological resilience, and perceived nurses'support was analyzed.Multivariate analysis was conducted to explore the factors influencing uncertainty in ill-ness among parents of neonates in NICU.Results:PPUS score of parents included in the study was 94.85±11.36.Fe-males,those under 25 years old,and those under 37 weeks of gestational age at delivery had relatively higher PPUS scores(t=2.010,2.003,2.070;P<0.05).Correlation analysis found that there was a negative correlation between un-certainty in illness and psychological resilience, and perceived nurses'support among parents of neonates in NICU(r=-0.480,-0.466;P<0.05).Multivariate analysis revealed that gender,CD-RISC score, and NPST score were inde-pendent influencing factors of uncertainty in illness among parents of neonates in NICU(β=-0.953,-1.977,-1.635,SE=0.411,0.756,0.709;P<0.05).Conclusion:Uncertainty in illness is common among parents of neonates in NICU.It is negatively correlated with psychological resilience and perceived nurses'support. In clinical practice,uncer-tainty in illness can be alleviated by strengthening psychological resilience of family members of the children and op-timizing nursing intervention.
