Effect of self-efficacy on medical students'learning engagement:Basing on the mediating effect of professional commitment
Objective:To explore the effect of self-efficacy on medical students'learning engagement and the medi-ating effect of professional commitment.Methods:A total of 559 medical students from Nanjing University of Chi-nese Medicine were surveyed using the Self-Efficacy Questionnaire,the Professional Commitment Questionnaire and the Learning Engagement Questionnaire.Results:① The results of correlation analysiss howed that there was a significant positive correlation between medical students'self-efficacy and learning engagement(r=0.233,P<0.01),a significant positive correlation between medical students'self-efficacy and professional commitment(r=0.141,P<0.01),a significant positive correlation between medical students'learning engagement and professional commitment(r=0.223,P<0.01),and a significant positive correlation between each dimension of medical students'learning engagementand each dimension of professional commitment.② The mediating effect analysis showed that medical students'self-efficacy positively predicted professional commitment(β=0.16,P<0.001),professional com-mitment positively predicted learning engagement(β=0.26,P<0.001),and self-efficacy positively predicted learn-ing engagement(β=0.30,P<0.001),and professional commitment played an incomplete mediating role in the rela-tionship between self-efficacy and medical students'learning engagement.Conclusion:Professional commitment has a mediating effect on the positive impact of self-efficacy on medical students'learning engagement,and the results of this study provide a theoretical basis for the education and training of medical students in universities.
