Influence of distal and proximalenvironmental factors on early maladaptive schemas of left-behind university students
Objective:To explore the influence of distal and proximalenvironmental factors on early maladaptive schemas of left-behinduniversity students. Methods:A total of 1423 university students(547 of whom with left-be-hind experience)were selected to investigated using Chinese version of Young Schema Questionnaire-Short Form 3rd Edition,Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, and Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment. The data were analyzed by correlation, linear regression, and mediating effect. Results:According to the correlation analysis,in the distal envi-ronmental factors, only the contact frequency was significantly correlated with early maladjustment schema(r=0.12,P<0.01),in the proximal environmental factors, the childhood trauma(r=0.30,P<0.001)and parent-child alienation(r=0.44,P<0.001)were significantly positive correlation with early maladjustment chema, but parent-child security attachment(r=-0.29,P<0.001)was significantly negative correlation with early maladjustment sche-ma.Linear regression analysis showed that emotional abuse(β=0.21,t=4.18,P<0.001),physical neglect(β=0.10,t=2.17,P<0.05)and parent-child alienation(β=0.33,t=7.61,P<0.001)had significantly positive predictive effects on early maladjustment schemas, while emotional neglect(β=-0.13,t=-2.68,P<0.01)and parent-child se-cure attachment(β=-0.13,t=-3.13,P<0.001)had significantly negative predictive effects.Childhood trauma and parent-child secure attachment fully mediated the effects of contact frequency and contact duration on early malada-ptive schemas, and parent-child alienation fully mediated the effects of contact frequency on early maladaptive sche-mas.Conclusion:Childhood trauma and parent-child attachment in the proximal environmental factors have signifi-cant direct impact on early maladjustment schema of left-behind university students, while only the contact fre-quency and contact duration that can reflect the parent-child interaction have an impact on early maladjustment schema in the distal environmental factors, and this impact is produced through the proximal environmental factors such as childhood trauma and parent-child attachment.
