Objective To understand the current status of supportive care needs and analyze its relationship with self-efficacy and quality of life in patients after radical surgery for esophageal cancer so as to provide reference for prognosis improvement. Methods The general data of 102 patients undergoing radical surgery of esophageal cancer were collected.General information about the patients was collected. To assess their supportive care needs,self-efficacy,and quality of life, three validated questionnaires were administered to the participants. These included the supportive care needs survey-short form 34(SCNS-SF34),the cancer self-management self-efficacy scale(SUPPH),and the functional assessment of cancer therapy-general(FACT-G).Pearson correlation analysis was employed to explore the relationship between supportive care needs,self-efficacy,and quality of life.Multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to identify the factors that influence supportive care needs. Results The total score of the SCNS-SF34 questionnaire for patients after radical surgery for esophageal cancer was(95.85±21.67)points,the SUPPH score was(90.81±20.42)points,and the FACT-G score was(59.16±13.75)points.Pearson correlation analysis revealed that the scores of the psychological needs, health information needs, care and support needs, and physiological and daily living needs dimensions were negatively correlated with the SUPPH and FACT-G scores in all dimensions(P<0.05).Significant differences in SCNS-SF34 scores were observed among patients after radical surgery for esophageal cancer with different ages, educational levels, per capita monthly incomes, and places of residence(P<0.05).The results of multivariate linear regression analysis showed that age, education level, per capita monthly income, place of residence,SUPPH score, and FACT-G score were the main factors influencing supportive care needs in patients(P<0.05),explaining 82.3%of the total variation. Conclusions The unmet demand for supportive care is common in patients after radical surgery of esophageal cancer. The supportive care demand is negatively correlated with self-efficacy and quality of life.Furthermore, these needs are influenced by various factors.Clinically, targeted guidance can be taken to improve patients'quality of life.
