Objective To analyze the relationship between sleep status and coping styles pain belief in elderly patients with intrinsic trigeminal neuralgia(ITN)in order to improve sleep status. Methods The medical records of 98 elderly patients with TN were collected. The numeric rating scale(NRS)was used to assess the degree of pain in patients. The Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI),the simplified coping style questionnaire(SCSQ),and the Chinese version of the pain beliefs and perceptions inventory(PBPI)were employed to investigate the patients'sleep status, coping strategies, and pain beliefs. The factors influencing sleep status and its relationship with coping strategies and pain beliefs were analyzed. Results Among the 98 elderly patients with TN,66 cases(67.3%)were found to have sleep disorders. In the group with sleep disorders, the proportion of patients with a disease course of more than 6 years, multiple lesions, moderate to severe pain,as well as negative scores and total PBPI scores were higher compared to the group with good sleep quality, and these differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Results of Spearman correlation analysis indicated that the PSQI score of elderly patients with TN was correlated with positive scores, negative scores, and total PBPI scores(r=-0.346,0.331,0.312,all P<0.05).Both univariate and logistic regression analyses revealed that the degree of pain, coping strategies, and pain beliefs were independent influencing factors of sleep status(P<0.05).Conclusions The poor sleep status of elderly patients with TN is associated with their coping strategies and pain beliefs.
