Objective To explore the effect of occupational stress on insomnia among police officers,to examine the mediating effect of anxiety and the moderating role of psychological flexibility, and to provide references for further maintenance and promotion of the sleep health of police officers. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted on 8 000 public security police officers using the occupational stressors scale in policeman of public security organization(OSSPPSO),the insomnia severity index(ISI),the depression anxiety stress scales-21(DASS-21),and the Chinese version of the psychological flexibility inventory(PFI-C).The moderated mediation model was verified using the PROCESS procedure. Results Pearson correlation analysis revealed that psychological flexibility was negatively correlated with occupational stress, anxiety, and insomnia severity(r=-0.37,-0.58,-0.40),while occupational stress was positively correlated with anxiety and insomnia severity(r=0.53,0.45),and anxiety was positively correlated with insomnia severity(r=0.59),all with P<0.01.Occupational stress significantly and positively predictedinsomnia severity(β=0.19,P<0.001).Anxiety partially mediated the relationship between occupational stress and insomnia, accounting for 57.78%of the total effect.Psychological flexibility moderated both the initial(β=-0.08,P<0.001)and latter(β=-0.03,P<0.01)segments of the mediation process from occupational stress to anxiety to insomnia. The mediating effect of anxiety decreased as psychological flexibility increased. Conclusions Reducing occupational stress, minimizing negative emotions, and enhancing psychological flexibility may be beneficial for the sleep health of public security police officers.
