Objective To analyze the influence of family and social support on the health status of the elderly living alone.Methods Based on the CLHLS data in 2018,this paper uses the binary logistic regression method to analyze the impact of family and social support on the health status of the elderly living alone.Additionally,propensity score matching(PSM)methodology was utilized to conduct a robustness test.Results A total of 2 131 valid samples were included in the study.Among the elderly living alone,61.8％had weak positive emotions in their daily lives,48.5％had strong negative emotions,86.7％did not require assistance with daily activities,67.9％had poor instrumental activities of daily living(IADL)capabilities,and 85.5％rated their health status as fair,poor,or very poor.Logistic regression analyses showed that financial support,emotional comfort from family,social security or insurance and community services influenced the health of the elderly living alone(P＜0.05).PSM indicating strong robustness of the findings.Conclusions Both family support and social support have a significant impact on the health of elderly living alone.It is essential to value family-based elderly care,improve the quality of the social security system,and strengthen the construction of community and medical institution organizations.
