Objective To understand the needs of elderly care recipients for integrated medical and elderly care services in communities from the perspective of Maslow's hierarchy of needs.Methods This paper utilized purposeful sampling to select 13 middle-aged and elderly individuals from a prefecture-level city in Zhejiang Province who are currently facing or about to face the decision regarding their elderly care options.In-depth interviews were conducted with these participants,and the data obtained were analyzed using Giorgi's method of phenomenological analysis.Results The total duration of the interview was 210 minutes,forming over 7 000 words of text.A total of seven sub-themes were identified:catering service and assurance of proper nutritional balance;having a reasonable regional distribution and superior geographic location;ensuring safe transportation;providing professional medical services and supporting rehabilitation and health facilities;creating platforms for social interaction and improving recreational facilities;regularly holding service discussion forums;organizing public welfare assistance to create opportunities for value realization.These seven sub-themes were then categorized into the five levels of Maslow's hierarchy of needs.Conclusions There is a robust demand for integrated medical and elderly care services within community settings among the elderly population.It is recommended to enhance the accessibility of elderly care services,ensure the dual needs ofcare and medical services,organize both material and spiritual activities,and pay attention to the humanistic care in elderly services.
