Objective To understand the psychological feelings and needs of adolescent patients with depression and suicide attempts in the process of recovery, and to analyze the psychological factors hindering their recovery,so as to provide references for assisting in the physical and mental recovery of adolescents with depression and suicide attempts. Methods Eleven adolescent patients with suicide attempts were selected by purposive sampling method,face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted based on phenomenological research to collect data, which were then processed and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results The total duration of the interviews was 586 minutes, and the total number of words in the textual data was 66 348.A total of three themes and eight sub-themes were distilled, namely, the resistance part of recovery(despair of persistent suicidal thoughts, powerlessness of being wrapped up in depression, and hopelessness of the pressure of double stigma),the realizations in the recovery process(introspection of the attempted experience, and sense of the significance of survival),and the expectations in the recovery process(longing for parental understanding, expectation of being free from pain, and praying for the world's forgiveness). Conclusions Adolescents with depression and suicide attempts experience negative psychological states and biased cognitions about suicide events during their recovery phase, which, coupled with the influence of depressive emotions, hinders their recovery process. It is suggested that healthcare professionals should strengthen psychological support and suicide knowledge education for adolescents with suicide attempts, and implement effective intervention measures to promote their physical and mental health recovery.
