On the Evolutionary Characteristics and the Coupling Relationship Between Geographical Agglomeration and Virtual Agglomeration in the Perspective of Digital Economy
The digital economy has brought significant transformation to the industrial economic structure, breaking the geographical constraints of various economic entities and extending and reshaping the agglomeration forms of indus-tries.Based on the provincial panel data from 2013 to 2021 in China, this study measures and analyzes the evolutionary characteristics and coupling coordination relationship of geographical agglomeration and virtual agglomeration under the perspective of the digital economy. The research results indicate that:the overall degree of geographical agglomeration under the digital economy perspective is gradually increasing, with a spatial positive correlation between provinces and the gap narrowing;the positive external effects generated by geographical agglomeration are gradually spreading from the eastern coastal areas to the central inland areas;the degree of virtual agglomeration shows a slight increase trend with se-vere polarization and significant regional differences, especially the virtual agglomeration level in the eastern regions is much higher than in other regions;the coupling coordination level of both geographical and virtual agglomerations shows a slight upward trend overall, and regionally,it presents the characteristic of"eastern>central>western>northeast-em".The research findings provide policy implications for further accelerating the integration of local digital economy and real economy, promoting the synchronous development of digital industrialization and industrial digitization, and re-alizing the"Digital China"strategy.
