The English Translation of Lei and Zhong in Gao Qinghai's Philosophy
By integrating Chinese,Western and Marxist philosophies,Gao Qinghai proposed his own philosophy theory. Therefore, the key terms lei and zhong, which has absorbed strengths from various sources, must necessarily start from China's reality and perspective, and present in the Chinese language with reflections and solutions unique to the Chinese. This innate complexity has caused difficulty and confusion in the English translation of the terms. To avoid further misunderstandings in the English world,it is imperative that a standardized translation of the terms be established.Truthful to Gao's texts and based on the most recent research findings in the fields of translation and linguistics,we pro-pose a strategy to translate these two key terms lei and zhong into"species"and"genus".The related concepts are translated into species-compounds and genus-compounds respectively with the hope to reconstruct the original meaning and the richness of Gao's thoughts,so that his philosophy can be brought to life in the form of the English language and hence a"good Chinese story is told to the world".
