Application of novel lignin-based flame retardant in polyurethane foam
As a kind of renewable natural macromolecular material, lignin can be used as an excellent carbon-forming agent and structural component of flame retardant in flame retardant system. In this study, lignin and amino trimethylene phosphate(ATMP)were reacted with the glycidyl isocyanurate(TGIC)through the epoxy group, and then the lignin-based flame retardant(LTAB)containing nitrogen and phosphorus was prepared by the reaction of benzoic acid with the hydroxyl group on the ATMP.The chemical structure of LTAB was characterized by FTIR and NMR,and the thermal stability of LTAB was analyzed by TGA.The LTAB was added into the reaction system for the polyurethane(PU)foam, and the flame-retardant polyurethane foam(PUF)was obtained by co-foaming.The effects of LTAB content on the thermal stability, limiting oxygen index(LOI),mechanical properties and compression set rate of flame-retardant PUF were studied. When the content of LTAB was 25%,the LOI of PUF reached 28%.And the compression set rate of PU foam decreased from 3.88%to 2.87%,indicating that flame retardant PUF has excellent mechanical stability. The flame retardant mechanism of flame retardant PU foam was explored. The LTAB was illustrated to be a kind of promising flame retardant for PU foam.
