Effects of Sowing Depth on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Malus sieversii
Taking Malus sieversii seeds as test materials, the effects of different sowing depths(0 cm,2 cm,4 cm,6 cm,8 cm and 10 cm)on seed germination and seedling growth of Malus sieversii were studied. The results showed that when the sowing depth was 0 cm,8 cm and 10 cm,Malus sieversii seeds did not germinate. When the sowing depth was 2 cm and 4 cm,the germination rate and germination index of Malus sieversii seeds were significantly higher than that of sowing depth of 6 cm,and the germination rate coefficient was not significantly different among different sowing depths. When the sowing depth was 6 cm,the plant height, main root length, dry matter weight of roots, stems and leaves of Malus sieversii seedlings were significantly higher than those of the sowing depth of 2 cm and 4 cm.There was no significant difference in the number of basal stems and leaves of seedlings compared with the sowing depth of 4 cm,and the difference was significant compared with the sowing depth of 2 cm.When the sowing depth was 4 cm,the root-shoot ratio was significantly higher than the sowing depth of 2 cm and 6 cm.In summary, when the sowing depth was 2-4 cm,it was conducive to the germination and survival of Malus sieversii seeds. When the sowing depth was 4-6 cm,it was conducive to the growth and dry matter accumulation of Malus sieversii seedlings.Combined with the seed germination, seedling growth and soil water retention effect of Malus sieversii, the sowing depth of 3-4 cm was suitable for the propagation of Malus sieversii seedlings. The conclusion of this study provides a reference for the continuation, preservation and renewal of Malus sieversii germplasm resources.
