Study on layout plan for newly separated bridge piers of the Huaihe River Bridge based on MIKE hydrodynamic model
This study explores the pier layout for the non-orthogonal crossing section of the Xinyang Express-way's Huaihe River Extra-Large Bridge.Utilizing the MIKE 21 hydrodynamic model,it assesses the effects of various pier layout plans on flood routing in the Huaihe River channel, considering factors such as river block-age,flow patterns, and variations in flow velocity. The findings reveal that aligning the newly constructed piers opposite the existing ones leads to substantial water blockage. Moreover, when the piers are misaligned,a detour flow can easily form between the new and old structures, compromising their safety and undermining the bridge's integrity. The preferred arrangement is to position the new piers in line with the flow direction oppo-site the old bridge, employing an angled bridge and angled layout for the expansion project. The findings of this study can serve as a basis for comparing and selecting bridge expansion plans and reduce engineering costs.
