Changes in China's Primary and Secondary School Art Curriculum Standards Since 2001
Since the beginning of the 21st century,China's Ministry of Education has successively issued five sets of art(including visual arts)curriculum standards for compulsory education and general high schools.During this period, the curriculum standards have evolved from advocating quality education to emphasizing core competencies. These standards reflect the deepening and continuous progress of art curriculum reform in China's primary and secondary schools. The new teaching philosophies, learning approaches, and evaluation methods they promote have transformed teaching and assessment practices in classrooms as well as students'learning experiences.Meanwhile, these reforms in primary and secondary school art education have also posed challenges for art education in Chinese higher education institutions.
