Role Practices and Implications of University Sustainable Development Institutions from the Perspective of Stakeholder Theory——Taking the University of Edinburgh in the UK as An Example
The founding of sustainable development institutions in universities is conducive to ensuring that univer-sities play a leading role in promoting social sustainable development from a governance perspective.The Universi-ty of Edinburgh has established the first university sustainable development institution in the UK,and under its leadership,the University has achieved outstanding results in promoting social sustainable development.Based on stakeholder theory,an analysis of the role practice of the sustainable development institution at the University of Edinburgh was conducted.It was found that the institution mainly collaborates with various stakeholders to promote sustainable development by leading determined stakeholders to implement sustainable development actions,provi-ding suggestions to prospective stakeholders,and stimulating the potential of potential stakeholders.The role prac-tice of the sustainable development institution at the University of Edinburgh is based on meeting the needs of vari-ous stakeholders and fully mobilizing their enthusiasm as the action logic.This has enlightening significance for Chinese universities to set up specialized institutions to promote the sustainable development of society and to carry out strategic management on stakeholders to promote the sustainable development of society in collaboration with va-rious stakeholders.
